Air Waybill

What is an Air Waybill?

Air waybill, or AWB, is an important transport document issued either by a carrier or through its agent. It acts as a receipt of goods or a carriage contract between the shipper and carrier.

More about Air Waybill

Air waybill is a non-negotiable, suggesting that it is not a document of title, document that does not only act as a receipt or carriage contract. The format of air waybill is designed by the International Air Transport Association and the information shown in the air waybill includes the names and addresses of the shipper and consignee, insurance details, transport details and instructions, and a serial number composed of a three-digit airline code, a seven-digit air waybill code, and a one-digit check digit. The serial number is often used to track the shipment.
