Container tracking provides real-time information of containers’ location using GPS-enabled sensors attached to the container, satellite, and a backend system.
The recent advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) makes container tracking possible. The sensor attached to the exterior of the container will transmit the location of the container to the satellite, which then relays the information to an application in a backend system. The system will process the information and make it available for different parties.
Container tracking provides reassurance to the recipients and allows them to plan their operational activities or make contingency plans in advance. Furthermore, suppliers can also proactively act in response to different situations, such as damage or loss of cargo, according to the information generated by the container tracking system.
